Lawmakers in Cyprus have sent a bill proposing to prohibit all forms of online sports books Paris, except in the European Commission for consideration. Under EU law, which prohibits restrictions on trade in services between EU countries, the government of Cyprus is obliged to ask the European Commission for an exemption pursuant to ban gambling online -National.

Legislature is to use logic similar to the Portuguese request to prohibit the success of 2009. In this case, which had tried to European Court of Justice, the Portuguese government has defended charges that the objective has been made online gambling legislation has created a state monopoly. Instead, he argued that the regulation would help to fight crime and fraud operators.

According to the Attorney General of Cyprus, Petros Clerides, the prohibition of roulette, slots and poker is the “public interest” to fight crime and protect consumers, “he said. Clerides also referred to the Court found in favor of the Portuguese in 2009 as proof of its correct. Although the proposed law to ban online casino games like roulette and slots, which allows Internet gambling licensing and power outlets.

Other principles are:

The creation of a Gaming Board, which regulates all online games in Cyprus.

In March 2009, Finance Minister Harilaos STAVRAKIS believes the economy of Cyprus has suffered an annual loss of 2.5 million Euros as a result of illegal land casinos and online. Lawmakers in Cyprus believe that the European Commission to give a verdict before the end of the year.

Terence Chew grew up in hot, humid Singapore, but his dreams are of ice — and of making the team for the tiny equatorial nation’s first ever offer to contest the Winter Olympics.

Chew is a hopeful speed skater, aiming to fly to the flag with a fledgling team that Singapore is putting together for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The 23-year-old undergraduate, who is undergoing compulsory military service, trains several nights a week with the goal of topping 60 kilometres (37.3 miles) an hour — twice as fast as his current best speed.

“If you can discipline yourself to do something that you want to, there’s always time for it. You have to make time for what you want,” he told AFP.

Singapore is an overachiever state, attaining industrialised status in just one generation and constantly aiming to be Asia’s best or the world’s best in all sorts of fields from education to technology.

But with a population of just five million — a million of them foreigners — and temperatures hovering around 30 degrees all year, it does not have a huge pool of winter sporting talent.

What it does have is is plenty of money, thousands of young Singaporeans working and studying overseas and a government determined to use sport as an instrument of national pride.

Singapore’s dreams are reminiscent of the Disney film “Cool Runnings,” based on the true story of sun-baked Jamaica’s bobsled team and its comical but successful campaign to enter the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada.

“You have Singaporeans doing amazing things,” said Teo Ser Luck, a senior official of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, referring to Singaporeans scaling Mount Everest and crossing Antarctica.

He admitted that entering Sochi 2014 may seem like an impossible dream right now but added that the effort alone could be worth it.

“It hopefully can inspire many other young people to come forward and say not just for Winter Olympics, not just for winter games or sports, but for anything that they want to do, that they continue to pursue their dreams.”

Dmitry Chernyshenko, president of the Sochi 2014 organising committee, challenged Singapore in August to aim high.

“Nothing is impossible for Singapore,” local media quoted him as saying.

“Qualifying for the Games is a feasible goal. Why not go for a miracle and have an Olympic medallist in 2014?”

To get things going, Singapore is setting up a national sports association encompassing snowboarding and skiing.

“I’m sure there are talented snowboarders and skiers amongst the Singaporeans living outside Singapore, including even some in Singapore,” said Low Teo Ping, a veteran sports official spearheading the formation of the association.

Low, who is vice-president of Singapore’s National Olympic Council and head of the national rugby association, said the hot climate was just an inconvenience.

“The world today is a lot smaller than what it used to be so people in Singapore also in fact travel distances to ski, to snowboard,” he said.

Besides snowboarding and skiing, the city-state is also hoping to nurture short-track speed skaters.

The Singapore Ice Skating Association (SISA) organised a training camp and trial in September to identify local talent.

Out of 80 participants, 14 athletes were scouted and sent to Changchun, China for a week-long training camp in September.

In China, Singapore beat neighbouring Malaysia in a mini-competition, said SISA president Sonja Chong.

“We now have a core of committed athletes that plan to train seriously,” she said. “If we don’t dream, we will never get there.”

A Canadian coach supervising the local trials, Yves Nadeau, said the country had potential in winter sports if it sustained the training programme.

However, the Sochi 2014 team will have to wait two more years before Singapore gets its own 20,000 square foot (1,858 square metre) Olympic-size ice skating rink, which is to be part of a shopping mall.

The current rink, also in a shopping centre, is just 10,500 square feet in size.

Athletes compensate for this by doing more land-based exercises which concentrate on building up specific muscle groups used in speed skating, and going overseas to train on ice whenever possible.

Despite the lack of ice for practice, Chew remained confident that he could become Singapore’s answer to Jamaican runner Usain Bolt — On Ice.

The matter centered on claims from Keystone Redevelopment Partners that it could have a say in Gaming Control Board measures covering a Foxwoods online casino project. This week, the Commerce Casino caused outrage amongst members of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) after it’s revelation that it was against any federal licensing of online poker.

The Commerce Casino’s opposition to Barney Frank’s HR 2267 and McDermott’s HR 2268 bills may have caused a furore in the poker playing community, but now more casinos have come out in support of the Commerce, including the Bicycle Casino, Hollywood Park and Hawaiian Gardens.

Responding to criticism by the PPA that they were greedy, betrayers of the poker community, Commerce Casino board member Haig Papaian and Tom Malkasian dismissed the PPA as one of many “special interest groups receiving funds from illegal offshore gaming operators.”

The Commerce Casino claims to employ over 20,000 workers in the state of California. Furthermore, with 70% of Californians using the interenet and $13.4 billion wagered annually online, the Commerce said it was keen to protect what is the biggest internet gaming market worldwide. As Malkasian explained in an interview with Poker News Daily:

“Federal and state regulation of online poker is coming and we can either fight to ensure that poker players’ interests are protected or allow illegal foreign operators, who are siphoning millions of American dollars out of this country, to dominate the U.S. market”

“If domestic card casinos do not defend themselves from offshore interests, we stand to lose not only revenue but also the loss of jobs. We are against the Frank and McDermott bills. (The) Poker Players Alliance should be against this, too.”

So far, the PPA seem unmoved by the Commerce casino’s stance with over 6,000 poker players already having signed a PPA organised online petition voicing their dissatisfaction with the casino. Amongst those players adding their weight to the petition are Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius, John Juanda, Joe Sebok, Erick Lindgren and David Williams.

In addition, PPA Executive Director John Pappas countered some of the Commerce’s argument by highlighting the fact that the HR 2267 bill stipulates that poker companies would be required to have at least 50% of their operations within the country. He summed up by stating:

“It’s pretty clear their only concern is that they don’t want to compete.”

As the war of words continues between the online casinos and the PPA, we will endeavour to bring you any updates to the story as they develop.

Online Casino Keno Multiple Tickets

Online Casino Keno Multiple Tickets

One of the disadvantages of online keno is that players cannot play with multiple tickets as they can do in brick and mortar keno games. In land based keno games players can buy as many tickets as they want for the next game and play all those tickets simultaneously. However this is not possible in online keno. There is only one matrix of eighty numbers on display on which players can mark their chosen numbers. The called numbers are also marked on this matrix later. One set of called numbers can be matched against only one set of marked numbers.

Now Win A Day online casino has removed this limitation in its recently released keno game. Players can play multiple tickets, up to 7, at a time. In order to achieve this, the display mechanics have had to be changed. The large central matrix of 80 numbers is used only to display the called numbers and not to mark the selected numbers. There are seven tickets on the left hand side of this central display. Each ticket contains the 80 numbers. The tickets become so small that the numbers are barely readable and hence these tickets cannot be directly used for marking.

Therefore an indirect marking mechanism is chosen. There is a larger matrix of 80 numbers below the central matrix, for the sake of convenience being called bottom matrix, and this is used for marking the tickets. First the Ticket 1 is selected by clicking on it. The required numbers are clicked on the bottom matrix and are automatically marked on Ticket 1. Then Ticket 2 is selected. The bottom matrix is automatically cleared and can be used for marking the numbers on Ticket 2. Following this procedure up to 7 tickets can be marked. There is a Quick Pick button that can randomly mark 15 numbers on a selected ticket. When players move the cursor over a ticket the marked numbers are displayed in the bottom matrix and this enables players to check the tickets before starting the balls.

When the Play button is clicked, the 20 called numbers are displayed on the central matrix. Each ticket is independently matched against the called numbers and evaluated against the payout table. The number of matches and the amount won are displayed on each ticket.

This variant allows different numbers to be marked on each ticket. It also allows different number of numbers to be marked on each ticket. For example in Ticket 1 the player can mark 15 numbers, in Ticket 2 he can mark 10 numbers and in Ticket three he can mark 5 numbers. Therefore each ticket will be played against a different payout table. As each ticket is highlighted, the payout table for that ticket is displayed in the payout table column.

Many online keno games offer an auto play feature in which a player can repeat a number of games. The player uses the same ticket against different called numbers in each game and hence these keno games are not multiple tickets games. The variant at Win A Day online casino allows players to play different tickets simultaneously against the same called numbers and is a true multiple tickets game.

Short Track Speed Skating

Short Track Speed Skating

Short track speed skating is the North American version of speed skating. Short track skating competitions originated in Canada and the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. Although it has its origins in the traditional speed skating from Holland, the short track speed skating you’ll see in the Olympics today is a more rough-and-tumble sport that, in many ways, looks more like roller derby than traditional speed skating

Short track speed skating was a demonstration sport in 1988 and official joined the Winter Olympic lineup in 1992. The short track speed skating competition during the Winter Olympics consists of the following races for both men and women: 500 m, 1000 m, and 1500 m. There is also a 3000 m women’s relay and a men’s 5000 m relay.

Events

In short track speed skating, skaters race each other around a 111.12 meter oval track (the size of a hockey rink). They race several heats in groups of 4-6 skaters at a time. The first two athletes to cross the finish line move on the next round until the field is narrowed to just the top four athletes.

Skaters are not able to build up to the kind of speeds you see in traditional speed skating for the same distances. In the short track events, a large part of wining is having the right strategy to pass other skaters. Often competitors from the same nation or sympathetic nations will team up with each other to maneuver around other competitors.

The short track speed skating relay is unique. There is no set rule as to how many laps must be completed in each leg. The only rule being that the last two laps have to be skated by the same skater. Consequently, there could be as many as 8 different handoffs in a single race. In most races, skaters don’t run more than 1.5 laps at a time.

In order for a handoff to occur, the skater must only touch the next skater in line. However, it is most common to see them crouch down and run up on the next skater giving them a push to build momentum.

Safety

Because of the close quarters and tight turns, there is quite a bit of jostling that goes on — and this does not violate any rules. However, skaters are not allowed to be too aggressive, or to intentionally injury other skaters. Still, wipe outs are common and skaters often get tripped up when another skater falls. Consequently, injuries in this sport are fairly common. For safety, skaters will often wear extra padding and sometimes helmets. The IOC has also adopted a padding system for the walls around the track to reduce the number of injuries during a collision.

Choosing the Right Ski Goggles

Choosing the Right Ski Goggles

Ski goggles are eye and face protection gear worn by skiers and winter motor sportsmen. They help keep your vision clear, protect the face from the impact of snow, ice, wind and twigs etc as you speed down the slopes enjoying your winter sports. The recent increase in demand for winter sports has lead to the advancement and development of related garb and accessories. Ski goggles are no less in importance than any other protective clothing and therefore must be chosen wisely. The best goggles like smith goggles even protect the face if you fall. They keep your face tilted up to prevent the face from colliding to harshly.

Henceforth are a few important points that should help you make a better choice when selecting the appropriate goggles for your ski trip.

Ski goggles have colored lenses. Each color is polarized to a different degree and adapts to a different sunlight setting. Golden tints for moderate light, dark or green colors for brighter days and blue for high intensity sunlight.
Make sure the lens of your goggle is 95% resistant to UV radiation. There is lots of radiation on the mountains and you need to keep your eyes shielded. The span of vision should also be good, 180 degrees vision goggles are advised, smith goggles for instance are a good example of how a goggle should be made.

If you have weak eyesight and use spectacles, make sure you get a goggle big enough to hold to eye-glasses inside and prevent fog from entering. We have OTG (Over The Glasses) goggles for this very purpose. Keeping the fog out is important and vents were introduced into goggles for the task. They made the fog blow past with the gushing wind thus keeping the vision clearer. If you are a true adventurer, buy your self a high tech night vision military goggle and blow away down the slopes in the darkness.

A nice fit cannot be emphasized enough, make sure your ski goggles are perfect fits.
Now you need to know the prices. The simple facts are; price range is huge ($20 to $500), A number of types, vented, aerodynamic, etc. So basically you need to know what you exactly want and then check the prices from the online market but you should make the purchase directly, after checking the goggle for fit and colors etc. The internet is no guarantee for the truth after all.

SKI JUMPING: BASICS

SKI JUMPING: BASICS

“The finest thing in skiing
Has always been the spring.
You’ll find you get much more applause
Than when you do the swing.”

Jump Turns and Gelandesprunge

Anyone who has done a little skiing and feels fairly confident should try and learn to do moderate jumps for he may suddenly come upon a small obstacle such as a stream or a ditch. Faced with this danger, make a small jump and you will be completely master of the situation.

If you are on a tour and you come to a precipitous slope which makes your heart beat faster and you are afraid to make a turn or you come suddenly upon a patch of very bad snow, you are lucky if you have taken the trouble at least to learn a simple jump turn.

The Jump Turn with One Stick

The most common jump turn in open country is with one stick. As in all these types of jump you get into a squatting position, look carefully for the best patch from which to leap, concentrate then on your position and the jump, stick in your downhill side stick, jump round it and land as gently as you can with a good Telemark.

With a modern rigid binding, it is impossible to carry out a Telemark. In order that the heel may free itself from the ski, the cable must be removed from the guides. The outer ski on the turn is pushed to the fore while the inner ski point stops in front of the foot of the outer ski so that it cannot cross it. In this Telemark fall out position you can lean inward and with a good balance above all in deep snow, can make one turn after the other down the slopes.

See that the skis, as you take off, in the air and above all as you land, are parallel. It is even more important to see that the stick, according to the speed is stuck in sufficiently far ahead, otherwise when you leap your skis will slide away beneath you and you will come down hard on your backside.

The Jump Turn with Two Sticks

In this manoeuvre you do the same as with a single stick only here you place both of them well to the fore to one side near the ski points and therefore you have two hands to help you swivel your body round the sticks.

The Gelandesprung

This is the most useful jump for a ski runner and it must be learned and practised by anyone who goes in for the sport. In much skied over, bumpy country it can not only prove extremely useful but also a pleasure. The gelandesprung can be made with or without sticks, and at great speed the latter are unnecessary. In the event of unforeseen obstacles, on the other -hand, the sticks can serve to give a thrust-off and also to steady the landing.

If your speed is not too great and you see the obstacle in time, the gelandesprung is the best way of overcoming that obstacle. If, however, you jump over a trough into the air, in order to land on the far slope, the sticks help you to retain your balance.

What young fellow in the world is not thrilled at pulling off a really good jump and having mastered this art, not to be forgotten is a small Telemark take-off on your leap. That dots the i’s and crosses the t’s.

Now it remains for you to learn these jumps and have a lot of fun with them.
